Take the road less traveled...to a place where time seems to move a little slower...

We’re often called “The Land of Many Waters” for very good reason! The Alligator and Pungo Rivers provide our north and west boundaries. To the east and south lies the Pamlico Sound. North Carolina’s largest natural lake, Lake Mattamuskeet, and two smaller lakes, the Alligator and the Pungo are here. Hundreds of miles of winding creeks, inlets and man-made canals and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway meander through the county. A ferry ride away is beautiful Silver Lake Harbor and Ocracoke Island with 16 miles of pristine beaches on the Atlantic Ocean.
